Christophoros Kotoulas was born in 1967 in Karditsa, Greece. He graduated from High School and entered the Military Medical School through the Panhellenic exams in which he excelled, in 1984.
After his graduation from the Military Medical School in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with the grade “Very Good”, he was named Medical Officer of the Greek Army Forces, in 1990.
From 1994 to 2001, he specialized in Cardio-Thoracic surgery at the General Hospitals of Athens, “Evangelismos” and “Sotiria”. During his specialization in the Hospital “Sotiria” he performed the largest number of procedures that has been ever been performed by a resident.
For three years, he worked as Junior Consultant at the Thoracic Surgery Department of "401" General Army Hospital of Athens.
From to 2004 through to 2006, he was fellow at Cardiac Surgery in the “MRI – Manchester Heart Centre” at Manchester, United Kingdom. Meanwhile, he succeeded in the European Boards in 2005, claiming the title of FETCS, as well as his PhD Thesis at the Medical School of Patras University, Greece, in 2006. In 2008 he obtained the FCCP title, which stands for Fellow of The American College of Chest Physicians, after a strict judgement by the College.
He has written a big number of Medical Studies in Medical Magazines, where more than 55 of them are published in peer-reviewed journals (pubmed). In addition to the writings he has presented more than 300 papers in International as well as Greek medical meetings.
He has been awarded for his PhD Thesis by the Hellenic Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons, from the Hellenic Cardiological Society, the Hellenic Surgical Society along with the Hellenic society of Lipidiology and Atherosclerosis (twice).
Since his return to Greece, he worked at the “401” Army General Hospital of Athens and Veteran Hospital of Athens as a senior consultant, while operating privately at “Iaso General Hospital”, “Henry Dunant Medical Center” and “Bioclinic” in Athens.
In 2009, he performed for the first time in Greece, thoracoscopic procedures of surgical ablation for atrial fibrillation.
In 2011, he participated voluntarily in the mission of the Humanitarian Association “Coeurs Pour Tous”(Heart for All) in Mauritius, where he performed a great amount of cardiac operations with extraordinary results and no deaths.
In a very short time of 4 months he created from the ground up the Cardiac Surgery Department of Hellenic Armed Forces, at “401” General Army Hospital of Athens, which he directed from March of 2013 up to October of 2014.
In 2015, he received his masters degree in "Endovascular Techniques" at the National Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Nowadays, he is the Deputy Director of the Cardiac Surgery Department of Hellenic Armed Forces, at "401" Army General Hospital of Athens.
In 2019, he was trained in the Cardiology Department of the Medical School of Athens (EKPA) in Structural Heart Diseases.
He operates privately in "Metropolitan General", formerly "Iaso General" Hospital of Athens as well as Bioclinic of Athens.
He is the President of the Hellenic Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons.
